The institution described the message as a scam perpetrated by idle men whose aim is to extort money from students. He stressed that it is not the practice of the institution to of notify students of their admission status through text message.
It would be recalled that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) announced that the deadline for the 2016/2017 academic session admission exercise will be on Wednesday, 30th November, 2016
The online statement obtained from the school website reads, “It has come to the notice of the university authorities that a text message is being sent to prospective students by unknown persons notifying them that they have been given admission into the University of Lagos.
“This is a scam. The message did not emanate from the University of Lagos.
“Members of the public are advised to ignore this message as the University of Lagos does not send text messages to admitted candidates and it does not require anyone to call any number.
“The University website is the only authentic source of information on admissions.”
